With the United Kingdom leaving the European Union, another layer of bureaucracy has been added when travelling to the EU with certain goods and vehicles, but with thanks to our friends at Bespoke Handling, it's now made a whole lot easier!
If you plan on towing a non-road registered vehicle to the EU from the UK, you will now need to have an ATA Carnet to allow the towed vehicle to enter the EU, this is almost a temporary insurance policy for the vehicle, but it is mandatory.
An ATA Carnet can be purchased for multiple durations from 30 days up to 12 months which will cover you for as many trips as you can make in a season to the EU.
RMA and Bespoke Handling have agreed on a fixed administration fee of just £125+VAT by mentioning RMA, where Bespoke Handling will organise all of the required documents to ensure your vehicle can cross the borders without any issues.
We recommend giving Bespoke Handling a call where they'll be able to advise you on the cost of the ATA Carnet for the specific vehicle and equipment you're planning on taking to the EU.
We must make it clear that you only need an ATA Carnet if you plan on taking a non-road registered vehicle on a trailer, you do NOT need one to drive your own personal vehicle to the EU or if you are towing a vehicle of yours which is road registered and insured, you just need to make sure you have all documents for all vehicles and insurance green cards.
If you have somebody else towing your road registered vehicle out to the EU, it is imperative they have all of the original documents for that car, the insurance green card which you obtain for free by calling your insurance company and a letter from the registered keeper permitting them to tow the vehicle.
Below you can see a chart which contains the relevant costings for an ATA Carnet for the specific value of the vehicle you intend to take and the different length Carnets. Once you’re ready to sort your Carnet, give the team at Bespoke Handling a call and put an end to all your travel worries!
